CHAPTER 10

“Ithink we need it this time,” Andrew said.

“Let’s talk about each of the suspects,” Harry said. “And then I have something else to talk about.”

“Alan Fox,” Andrew said. “Thoughts?”

“He seemed shocked and upset,” Hugh said. “He did admit, when asked, that Trevor could be a difficult person to like, but he said that he’d never had any issues with the man.”

“Which is what you would say if you’d asked someone to be your best man because you were hoping to get a car out of it,” Doona said.

“To be fair to Alan, he wasn’t doing too badly financially at the time of his wedding,” Harry said. “He and his new wife both had newer cars, and they’d just bought a large house together. He did admit, when questioned, that Trevor’s generosity to their other friend had bumped Trevor to the top of the list when he was looking for a best man, but he also said that Trevor had already been pretty high on the list.”

“None of that is a motive for murder, anyway,” Charles said. “Alan might have let greed influence his decision for best man, but I can’t see any reason why he’d turn around and kill the man.”

“Alan is near the bottom of my list,” John said.

“Mine, too,” Harry said. “And so is Kelli. Regardless of motive, if either of them wanted to get rid of the man, I can’t imagine them choosing to kill him at their wedding. Why ruin their special day? Unless there was some urgent reason to eliminate Trevor, but I’ve seen nothing to suggest that there was.”

“That’s a good point. Why was he killed at the wedding?” Doona asked. “Maybe that was the only place the killer was able to get access to Trevor.”

“If that’s the case, that would narrow down the list of suspects considerably,” Bessie said.

“We can’t assume anything, but it’s an interesting point to consider,” Andrew said.

“What about Kylie?” Charles asked. “In her statement, she was clearly upset, but also vocal about her dislike for Trevor.”

“And deservedly so. He was quite horrible to her,” Doona said.

“But the night was nearly over,” Bessie said.

“Maybe she just decided that he no longer deserved to live,” Doona said.

“I think Annie is more likely,” Hugh said. “It must have been hard for her to sit there and watch Trevor with Kylie all night.”

“She should have dumped him in front of everyone,” Doona said.

“Except she was in love with him,” Hugh said.

“What about the friends, Randy and Ben?” Harry asked.

“They both claimed to be getting along great with Trevor before he died,” Hugh said. “But either one of them could have been lying. Maybe Randy decided that he’d had enough of watching Trevor treat Annie so badly.”

“I was wondering about that,” Charles said.

“Ben seems less likely, but I did find it odd that he always used to go out with Trevor’s exes,” Doona said.

“Yeah, I’d like to know more about that,” Hugh said.

“Rusty is clearly in love with Brooke,” Harry said. “Which clouds his judgement of her.
